Airsoft pistols are quality sidearms that can be useful if your main gun runs out of ammunition. Sometimes you do not have time to switch magazines or reload a single magazine, and being able to quickly pull out another airsoft gun can be very useful. Most airsoft pistols are still powerful enough to get hits, and you will not be at a significant disadvantage against a rifle.
In fact, some people prefer to play only with pistols, even against those who are using strong airsoft rifles. I knew one guy who would only dual wield CM033 Electric Airsoft Pistols, and he still did very well, many games taking out everyone else on the other team. With enough training and experience, those who utilize pistols can be a deadly force to be reckoned with.
